The Wave London – A Regenerative 21st-Century Park

The Wave London is imagined as a pioneering regenerative park where sport, nature, and wellbeing converge to form an inclusive, dynamic, and restorative destination. More than just a surf facility, it aims to offer a new kind of public space—an immersive experience grounded in sustainability and connection. The masterplan brings together two interlinked zones: The Wave — the central surf destination — and The Park, a broader landscape of recreation, relaxation, and education. Together, they support movement, learning, nature connection, and community wellbeing for all ages and abilities.

Adapting to Climate Change
The project is designed for long-term resilience. Green roofs, passive cooling, and thermally efficient building envelopes help mitigate overheating and reduce energy consumption. Infrastructure is intentionally flexible, ensuring adaptability as environmental conditions evolve—supporting operational efficiency while preserving comfort.

Greening the City
The Wave London acts as an ecological anchor in the urban fabric. Nature-based solutions such as green roofs, SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems), and ecological corridors weave greenery throughout the site, improving air quality, enhancing biodiversity, and mitigating urban heat. The park landscape supports habitat connectivity and delivers year-round environmental and recreational value.

Inclusive, Healthy Environments
Accessibility and wellbeing are central. All areas are designed with step-free access, intuitive wayfinding, and Changing Places facilities. Landscapes and facilities promote physical activity, sensory engagement, and social interaction. The Wave London is not just inclusive—it actively encourages participation, belonging, and connection with nature for every visitor.

Architecture and Landscape
Architecture at The Wave London is modest, adaptable, and designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment. Guided by circular design principles, the buildings are structured to support natural rhythms—daily and seasonal—while encouraging human interaction with land and water. The Clubhouse serves as the social core, offering year-round access to water, facilities, and community connection. The landscape-led strategy fosters a resilient, biodiverse setting through wildflower meadows, planted terraces, and accessible open spaces, enriching both ecological value and visitor experience.

Resource Management
Circularity is at the heart of The Wave London’s resource strategy. Low-carbon materials, passive-first building principles, and on-site renewable energy systems reduce the environmental footprint across all stages of development. Water-efficient infrastructure and the reuse of existing buildings further minimise demand on resources, aligning with a broader vision of regenerative land use and climate responsibility.
