We are a passionate, driven and dynamic team of master planners, architects, designers and doers.

All motivated by the belief that the places we live, work, play and learn in can and should have a positive impact on both the planet and the health and happiness of those who interact with them.

Meet the team…

Ian Richardson, Director, APG, Bristol

Ian Richardson

Director

Ian leads on all of APG’s master planning, urban design and landscape projects, where his skills in sustainable placemaking, inclusive design, and a focus on health and wellbeing are ever present ingredients.

And if that ever gets a bit heavy going, Ian is always able to escape to the sea for a spot of surfing or sea swimming (strictly summer only), possibly fitting in a quick trail run en-route.

Linkedin

Josie Turner

B-Corp & Bristol Studio Lead

Having studied at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, Josie brings an understanding of environmentally benign building technologies into the office, for the benefit of the whole APG Team. She has a particular expertise in energy efficient retro-fitting solutions as a means of addressing the climate crisis.

She has an infectious enthusiasm and loves nothing more than to be presented with a problem to solve, be it a design dilemma, a tricky detail, a computer tech issue, (or even a tough Sudoku puzzle).

Adam Parsons, Director, APG, Bristol

Adam Parsons

Director

Adam can often be found floating around in the sea, from where he insists he draws his architectural inspiration. This may explain why so many of APG ‘s projects are in coastal locations.

Adam leads all of APG’s Architectural projects, and lists his interests as surfing, family, and sustainable design, (not necessarily in that order - depends who’s asking), and his skills as sketching and talking, (which, given that a picture is worth a thousand words, seems excessive).

Linkedin

Chris Irwin

Architect

Resulting from his multiple roles in the building industry in the UK, as well as his native New Zealand, Chris has a technical understanding of a huge range of building types. This has given him an uncanny ability to predict problems and either navigate around them, or simply squash them at source.

Away from the office, Chris can often be found, quietly ambling around the parks of Bristol with camera in hand, pursuing that elusive wildlife photograph that will make the cover of National Geographic.

Linkedin

Martin Horne

Architect

Martin is a big-time cycling enthusiast, and he brings this passion to work (well, it brings him to work really).

Once at work, Martin has the drive and focus necessary to deliver as lead designer on some of APG’s most complex projects, with great technical expertise, a good listening ear, great charm, and impressive organisational skills.

Linkedin

Ellie Sutton

Architect

Ellie has an energy and passion for design that is helping her develop into a skilled design ‘all-rounder’. She is able to work across a number of projects simultaneously, where her impressive graphics and 3D modelling skills are vital components of APG’s graphic style.

When she isn’t working Ellie is a keen book-worm, loves her yoga, and her long-boarding, (although seldom simultaneously).

Linkedin

Charmaine Clarke, Office Administrator, APG, Bristol

Charmaine Clarke

Office Administrator

When Char ends her day at APG, having tended the needs of the APG staff  by expertly sorting out the telephone system, ordering an abundance of pencils, pens, coffee etc, sundry administration, and gracefully fielding a thousand cold-calls, she goes home to relax with her two teenage children (…OK, not ‘relax’ exactly).

Lawrence Jones, Technician, APG, Bristol

Lawrence Jones

Technician

Lawrence is a sponge. This may seem harsh, so to clarify; he has been absorbing information on the more technical side of the design process ever since APG’s inauguration in 1992. This makes Lawrence our longest serving staff member, an Oracle of knowledge, and living legend.

He occasionally escapes the office for the adrenaline rush of large scale remote control cars, some of which we have adorning the extensive shelving of APG’s Bristol office, (viewings by appointment).

Rosi, Architectural Assistant, APG, Bristol

Rosi Atanasova

Architect

Rosi has an eye for detail, an eye for sustainable design, and an eye for social inclusivity, (OK, who’s counting). She is instinctively driven by a desire for sustainability in her architecture (and in her life in general) and enjoys the construction process throughout the various stages of design and contract management.

Having completed her Masters in Sustainable Architecture at the Centre for Alternative technology in Wales, she has the skills to match her aspirations for sustainability and is very happy to share her knowledge with colleagues at APG and the wider world, (getting her to stop can be an issue though). However, Rosi’s new dog Tilki is always happy to listen.

Linkedin

Simon Manaton, Project Architect, APG, Bristol

Simon Manaton

Architect

Simon is adept at obtaining Planning Consent where none seems likely, (although much coffee is required to aid the process). During the early design stages, he is able to communicate design concepts using his sketching skills, followed by more refined hand drawn illustrations to present at Planning.

Having successfully obtained such, (and having then had some more coffee), he has the skills and experience to engage with the detailed design process, making him one of APG’s ‘Concept to Completion’ Architects.

Away from the office (and occasionally in the office), Simon likes to ski and to play football and excels at both (Just not at the same time!).

Linkedin

Alicia Sutcliff

Architectural Assistant

When not playing rugby in the Women’s Championship South 1 Division, Alicia is passionate about designing healthier, more supportive environments through architecture.

Her final year project focused on a biophilic primary school, and her dissertation explored how biophilic design can positively impact the cognitive development and wellbeing of children in UK schools. Alicia is particularly interested in how natural design principles can be integrated to promote wellbeing across education and community projects.

Josh Kindlon

Architectural Assistant

Josh joined the team after completing his architecture studies at Cardiff University, where his final year design project focused on the adaptive reuse of a derelict building in Stokes Croft, transforming it into a vibrant, community-led arts hub. He has a particular interest in sustainable design, with a passion for retrofit and breathing new life into existing buildings.

Outside of the studio, Josh can usually be found on the rugby pitch in winter, or surfing and cold-water swimming when the weather allows—sometimes even when it doesn’t.
